freecashflow.ai builds complete Excel-based financial models from a structured specification. Instead of manually wiring hundreds of formulas across dozens of worksheets, you describe what your model should contain -- accounts, periods, business units, economic indexes, scenarios -- and the engine generates a fully functional Excel workbook ready for analysis.
The generated model includes linked worksheets for data input, financial statements, key assumptions, scenario switching, and consolidated reporting. Every formula, cross-reference, and formatting detail is handled automatically.
Two Ways to Start
When you open the application, you have two options for creating a new specification:
New Model Specs
Choose New Model Specs if you already understand the structure of a financial model and want direct control over every setting. This creates a blank specification and drops you straight into the editor, where each section of the specification is accessible from the sidebar. This path is best for experienced analysts who know exactly what accounts, periods, and structure they need.
Specs Wizard
Choose Specs Wizard if you prefer a guided, step-by-step setup. The wizard walks you through the essential decisions -- company name, language, currency, time horizon, organizational structure, and chart of accounts -- in a logical sequence. At each step it provides sensible defaults and explanations. When you finish the wizard, the specification is fully populated and ready for fine-tuning in the editor.
You can also open an existing specification file to continue working on a model you started earlier.
The Main Workflow
Building a financial model follows a straightforward progression:
- Configure -- Work through each section of the specification (General, Database, Sources, Periods, Business Units, Cases, Indexes, Scenarios, Accounts). Each section controls a different aspect of the generated model.
- Validate -- Run the built-in validator to check for inconsistencies, missing references, or structural problems before generating the workbook.
- Build -- Generate the Excel file. The engine reads your specification and produces a complete workbook with all worksheets, formulas, formatting, and cross-references.
- Download -- Save the generated Excel file to your computer and open it in Excel or any compatible spreadsheet application.
The User Interface
The application interface is organized into three main areas:
Menu Bar
The menu bar runs across the top of the screen. It contains commands for file operations (New, Open, Save, Export), model generation (Validate, Build), and application settings. Keyboard shortcuts are available for the most common actions.
Sidebar
The sidebar on the left lists every section of the specification: Configuration, Database, Sources, Periods, Business Units, Cases, Indexes, Scenarios, and Accounts. Click a section to open its editor in the main content area. A visual indicator shows which sections have been configured and which still need attention.
Status Bar
The status bar at the bottom of the screen displays contextual information about the current file: the specification file name, its modification state, the active company name, and the selected language. During validation and build operations, progress information appears here as well.
